Fresh and Smoked Seafood Production Manager

Position Summary

Reporting to the Service Centre’s Seafood General Manager, the Fresh and Smoked Seafood Production Manager is directly responsible for all aspects of seafood production in the Service Centre.  This includes directly overseeing line operating staff in the areas of training, employee development, performance and succession management, retention, and engagement.  The Fresh and Smoked Seafood Production Manager is responsible for leading employees in the achievement of manufacturing objectives pertaining to yield performance, product quality, production efficiency, and both food and workplace safety.  As a member of the management team in the Belleville Service Centre, responsibilities also include contributing to an operational excellence business model focused on profitability and growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work effectively with other members of the Service Centre management team to identify annual, semiā€‘annual, quarterly, and monthly objectives in support of the Service Centre's tactical and strategic plans
  • Set a positive example for all production and operating staff, providing leadership towards meeting Vantage production, financial, and strategic goals and objectives
  • Oversee and train hourly staff within the in the area of fresh and smoked seafood production requirements, product quality, and the operation of related production equipment
  • Facilitate the achievement of Vantage’s objectives in terms of our Brand Promise, efficiency targets, and customer service objectives
  • Accountable for achieving operational targets and budgets, including product yields, labour usage, and related costs and productivity with daily reporting on same
  • Actively participate in new seafood  product development and innovation
  • Ensure HACCP requirements are met in areas of responsibility and enforce HACCP procedures while demonstrating a strong commitment to food safety
  • Establish weekly shift schedules to effectively manage the production operations workforce and ensure timely communication with all employees on the seafood production line
  • Promote a team atmosphere, and a healthy and safe work environment for all employees within the Service Centre, providing consistent and ongoing communication with employees
  • Accountable for ensuring compliance with Workplace Safety and Occupational Health legislation and reinforce safe working requirements and practices
  • Ensure compliance with Vantage policies, all relevant legislative requirements, and terms of the Collective Agreement to include dealing with performance  concerns and discipline matters
  • Provide the operating teams with committed leadership on LEAN manufacturing principles and continuous process improvement techniques

Key Skills and Competencies

  • Demonstrated communication skills in order to lead, engage, and motivate individuals
  • Computer proficiency, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications
  • Understanding of manufacturing financial controls, particularly yield and labour optimization

Qualifications

  • Minimum grade 12 education with experience in LEAN manufacturing principles
  • 10+ years of experience in a smoked seafood processing environment with  prior leadership responsibilities
