Production Supervisor

Position Summary

The Production Supervisor is directly responsible for the supervision, training, employee development, performance and succession management, retention, and engagement of hourly operating staff.  The Production Supervisor is responsible for leading groups of hourly employees in the achievement of manufacturing objectives pertaining to yield performance, product quality, production efficiency, and both food and workplace safety. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and train hourly staff within the Service Centre in the area of production requirements, quality, and the operation of production equipment
  • Facilitate the achievement of objectives in terms of our Brand Promise, efficiency targets, and customer service objectives
  • Accountable for achieving operational targets and budgets, including product yields, labour usage, and related costs and productivity with daily reporting on same
  • Ensure HACCP requirements are met in areas of responsibility and enforce HACCP procedures while demonstrating a strong commitment to food safety
  • Effectively address performance concerns and discipline
  • In conjunction with the Production Manager, establish weekly shift schedules to effectively manage the production operations workforce and ensure timely communicate with all employees in the Service Centre
  • Promote a team atmosphere and a healthy and safe work environment for all employees within the Service Centre, providing consistent and ongoing communication with employees
  • Accountable for ensuring compliance with Workplace Safety & Occupational Health legislation and reinforce safe working requirements and practices
  • Ensure compliance with Vantage policies, all relevant legislative requirements, and the terms of the Collective Agreement
  • Provide the operating teams with committed leadership on Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous process improvement techniques
  • Work with the Service Centre management team to identify annual, semi-annual, quarterly, and monthly objectives in support of the Service Centre’s tactical and strategic plans
  • Set a positive example for all production and operating staff, providing leadership towards meeting production, financial, and strategic goals and objectives

Key Skills and Competencies

  • Outstanding communication skills in order to lead, engage, and motivate individuals and/or teams
  • A thorough understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles and leadership applications within a manufacturing environment
  • Computer proficiency, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications

Qualifications

  • College diploma or University degree, or an equivalent combination of related experience and education
  • 5-7 years of previous leadership experience within a meat processing environment
