Controller

Location: Belleville, Ontario

The Controller is the most senior financial position within the Service Centre (SC), and is ultimately responsible for the financial, product quality, and yield reporting and analysis for the SC. The Controller develops strong relationships with the customer(s) at all levels and ensures reporting is accurate, timely, and responsive to the business’ requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all accounting functions and yield reporting within the SC. Ensures production operations staff understand reporting and data requirements for accurate yield and product reporting. Works with IT staff to ensure equipment is operating properly to provide necessary data for reporting purposes
  • Leads the annual budgeting and strategic planning exercises to develop plans for the upcoming year. Works with the Corporate COO and CFO on long-term strategy and policy development
  • Management of internal manual and computerized systems to track, report on, and measure product yield, production, and other significant operating specifications
  • Communicates with production and other SC staff on targets, performance, and necessary adjustments to ensure achievement of Company objectives in terms of product yield and quality, efficiency targets, and customer service objectives. He/she will work toward the achievement of manufacturing objectives pertaining to quality, customer service, productivity, and efficiency
  • Leads the Finance and IT team to set and meet their targets through effective goal-setting, ongoing assessment, and coaching
  • Understands, reinforces, and ensures compliance with company policies, all relevant provincial/federal legislation requirements, and collective agreement terms

Your Skills and Competencies

  • University degree with 10+ years of related, progressive experience. CPA/CA/CGA/CMA designation
  • Experience in financial management within the manufacturing sector, and preferably within the meat processing/food sector would be desirable
  • Superior analytical skills to address, resolve, and recommend improvements in data acquisition and management to provide timely and accurate information to SC management on all product-related issues
  • Strong computer skills, including experience in maintaining a local area network. Has the ability to manage and utilize data from a number of database sources. Up-to-date working knowledge of computer systems, databases, and local area networks
  • As a senior leader within the SC, the Controller will present a professional and respectful attitude when dealing with both internal and external contacts and works toward facilitating a team atmosphere within the SC
  • Up-to-date training on WHMIS, leadership issues (conflict management, performance management, time management), and leading through others
