Quality Assurance Manager

Location: Camp Hill, Pennsylvania

The incumbent is responsible for developing a systematic approach to food safety through Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) programs while ensuring compliance with Food Safety & Inspection Service (FSIS) regulations. This includes ensuring the necessary focus on preventative measures, identification of food safety hazards, and key actions necessary to reduce risk factors. The Quality Assurance (QA) Manager is responsible for supervising all QA technicians in the Service Center, including the preparation and delivery of staff performance evaluations and career development initiatives. The QA Manager will assist all areas in achievement of manufacturing objectives pertaining to quality, quality improvement process management, and meeting quality standards. Accountabilities in this role include: troubleshooting and resolving customer complaints; presenting a professional and respectful attitude when dealing with both internal and external contacts; and facilitating a team atmosphere within the Service Center.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensures effective food safety guidelines, testing protocols, and practices are in place and being followed
  • Implements and maintains Quality Assurance programs with a focus on adherence, viability, functionality, and effectiveness
  • Directs the Service Center laboratory facilities; sets up laboratory for new testing if required
  • In collaboration with the Vice-President, Food Science and Regulatory Affairs, trains staff and supervisors in quality, HACCP, food handling, and testing processes
  • Provides quality and technical guidance to all Service Center personnel in the areas of process controls, product quality, and inspection
  • Conducts/monitors the testing and evaluation of new equipment and instructions in terms of meeting product specifications
  • Troubleshoots and resolves customer complaints; identifies and prevents ongoing problems
  • Conducts regular audits to ensure FSIS and quality standards are met
  • Demonstrates continuous/quality improvement by developing methodology to improve processes and standards while meeting finished product specifications
  • Prepares reports and documentation of inspections, audits, and problems/defects
  • Makes concise decisions to hold substandard product; establishes and maintains necessary documentation
  • Liaises with government representatives
  • Supervises laboratory technicians
  • Demonstrates effective manufacturing practices
  • Implements/reviews standard operating procedures
  • Develops schedules and resource allocations for QA related projects

Your Skills and Competencies

  • University degree/diploma in a Food/Animal Science, including fundamental microbiology preferred
  • 2-3 years of supervisory experience developing/implementing HACCP program for the meat/food industry
  • Excellent written and oral communications
  • Computer experience Microsoft Office Suite
